The Western Sunrise was the flagship publication of the Mosque of Islamic Brotherhood (MIB) located in Harlem, NY. MIB is the successor institution to the Muslim Mosque Inc., established by El Hajj Malik Shabazz, Malcolm X. The publication, only a fraction of which is represented here, covered a range of topics that address politics, society, culture and religion. Imam El Hajj Talib Abdul Rashid, the head of MIB and an internationally recognized spiritual and social justice leader made these materials available to the After Malcolm team.
